How AI Is Actually Changing Video Production (Not the Hype Version)
A practical look at where AI genuinely speeds up video production today, and where a human crew still does it better.

Where AI genuinely wins on speed
Most coverage of AI in video production swings between "it's replacing everyone" and "it's a gimmick." Neither is accurate. Here's what's actually changed, practically, for anyone commissioning video content right now.
Concept testing, product ads, and social content where the message matters more than a specific real location or person are where AI production has changed the economics fastest. A Gen AI-built ad can go from brief to finished asset in a fraction of the time a full crew shoot takes, because there's no location scouting, no crew scheduling, no weather risk.
Where a real crew still wins
Anything relying on authenticity, a real testimonial, a real location, a founder actually speaking, still benefits from being actually filmed. AI-generated people and AI-narrated scripts have gotten remarkably good, but "remarkably good" isn't the same as indistinguishable, and audiences increasingly notice the difference, sometimes reacting against it.
Voice cloning is the quieter, more useful shift
Less discussed than AI video, but arguably more immediately useful: voice cloning lets a business record a spokesperson's voice once and reuse it indefinitely across scripts, without booking a new studio session each time. It's a genuine cost and time saver with none of the "is this real" ambiguity that AI video sometimes carries.
The mixed approach is winning, not either extreme
In practice, the strongest campaigns right now use both: real footage where authenticity matters, AI generation where speed and iteration matter more than photographic reality. Treating it as a binary choice, all AI or all traditional, misses where the actual value is.
What to ask before choosing a route
Does this asset need to feel like a specific real person or place? If yes, lean human production. Is the message the point, and the visual just needs to support it? AI production is usually faster and cheaper without a meaningful quality trade-off. Most briefs land somewhere in between, which is exactly why mixed production has become the default rather than the exception.
